Reunindo mais de 200 itens, entre obras, documentos, figurinos e adereços, Trabalho de Carnaval é a maior mostra já realizada no Brasil sobre sua mais importante festa popular. Dividida em quatro núcleos – Fantasia, Trabalho, Poder e Cidade – a exposição busca evidenciar como o carnaval ultrapassa os limites do calendário, movimentando uma cadeia produtiva que gera trabalho e renda, resultado de um planejamento cuidadoso que contrasta com a alegria efêmera que a festa transmite. Com curadoria de Ana Maria Maia e Renato Menezes, Trabalho de Carnaval percorre diversas regiões do Brasil, buscando dar protagonismo a atividades historicamente invisibilizadas, mas fundamentais para a realização da festa.

Bringing together over 200 items, including artworks, documents, costumes, and props, Trabalho de Carnaval [The Labor of Carnival] is the largest exhibition to be held in Brazil on its most important popular festival. Divided into four sections – Costume, Work, Power, and City – the exhibition seeks to highlight how Carnival trancends the limits of the calendar, driving a production chain that generates work and income, which is the result of careful planning that contrasts with the ephemeral joy that the festival conveys. Curated by Ana Maria Maia and Renato Menezes, The Labor of Carnival travels through different regions of Brazil, seeking to bring to the forefront activities that have historically been invisibilized, but are fundamental to the realization of the festival.
